Audio
If you checked out our previous website we had a complete section dedicated to audio. We have tried to simplify the process with this new web update. If you have any questions about equipment please feel free to give me a call. My cell # is 423.667.1209 or my home phone is 615.528.1274. You can also send me an e-mail jason@truthtoall.com Here are a few of the components we suggest that a missionary have to help make presenting their ministry easier.
If at all possible I would put your multimedia presentation into a DVD presentation for several reasons.
- You will never have to worry about going too long in your presentation, it is always the same length
- You will not have to worry about what to say
- You can send your presentation to a pastor with your information packet.
- You communicate a level of professionalism (which shows you are serious and excited about what you are doing)
- DVD players are very inexpensive now. You can purchase one from Wal-mart for less than $30.
You may be wondering how to put your presentation into a DVD format and for that I would recommend a very inexpensive program (it comes with the windows operating system) called Windows Movie Maker. You can do plenty of things through movie maker to communicate a level of professionalism and the format is very simple. You simply drag and drop your pictures and video onto a timeline and space it out to your desired time slot. You can add music and narration fairly simply. There are other free programs on the internet to help you with your audio.
Here is a suggested way of setting up your DVD player so you can project your video through a data projector and play your audio through the church sound system:
We would suggest a cheap DVD player from Wal-mart (approx. $30)
In order to take your audio from the back of the DVD player into the church sound system you will need a couple of components. You will need a RCA to stereo plug that looks like the picture below.
After you connect the black and red RCA cables to the back of the DVD player you will need to plug the stereo plug into an adapter that looks like the picture below.
After you have connected the adapter to the end of the stereo plug you will plug it into a box that looks like the picture below. This little device is called a “whirlwind EDB1”. If you do a search on Google you can find them listed on several places on the internet for about $30. That sounds big, but simply what it does is eliminates any background noise from your audio source (dvd player) and also gives you some volume control because as you know there is no volume control on a DVD player. The EDB1 looks like the picture below:
On the opposite side of the EDB1 there is a place where you can connect a microphone cable and now you can play your presentation through the sound system of a church. Be sure to use the decibel limiting switch on the side of the device so that you don’t blast church members out of their pews when you are setting up your presentation. This device will also work should you chose to use your computer to present your video.
Again, this is just a suggested list of components to help you play your DVD audio through the sound system of the church. All of these components together are cheaper than replacing the DVD ROM on your laptop computer and that is why we decided to go with this setup.
Again, if you have any suggestions or questions, please feel free to give us a call or e-mail and we would be glad to help in any way we can. If you would like a basic print out of the setup listed above click here.
